Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases represent the leading cause of mortality worldwide. In Argentina, the province of Río Negro (RN) is not exempt from this reality. In ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (STEACS), there are multiple barriers hindering timely reperfusion treatment and maximum patient engagement according to the incidence of this pathology. Objective: To conduct a health situation analysis of patients over 18 years old with STEACS in the public sector of Alto Valle de RN; calculate the Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL) of observed patients and unrecorded YPLL due to lack of patient engagement. Materials and Methods: An epidemiological investigation was conducted, a cross-sectional health situation analysis from January to December 2017 of patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), based on primary and secondary sources. Data were collected from 16 centers in the Alto Valle of Río Negro, twelve (12) public and four (4) private. The latter receive patients because there is no public offer of Hemodynamics services in the Alto Valle. All requirements requested by the Ethics Committee for the Evaluation of Research Projects in Human Health (CEEPISH by its acronym in Spanish) were met.
