Abstract

Despite an increase in the participation of women in medicine and cardiology, there is still a large gap in achieving the same participation as men; especially when it comes to key positions in medical societies or senior decision-making positions. In cardiovascular scientific publications this inequity is reflected, especially in the first and last authorship; the first reflects who carries out the research and the last is understood to be the one who has the leadership in the subject, both positions are often assigned to men. Women are underrepresented in Argentine journals as in most Latin American countries, mainly in cardiology journals, with no changes observed in the last 5 years. This forces us to rethink the participation of more women in the editorial committees and seek to encourage their participation as authors.
