Objectives: 1. To evaluate immediate and 3-month follow-up results of atrial fibrillation ablation;2. To describe procedure-associated complications; 3. To associate variables to success rate. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive, retrospective, single-center, observational study, atrial fibrillation ablation procedures performed at the Juana Cabral Institute of Cardiology between 01/01/12 and 12/31/21 were evaluated. The primary endpoint was atrial fibrillation ablation immediate success rate. Secondary endpoints included 3-month recurrence and immediate complications. Results: A total of 162 patients were included; 77.2% of the patients were male, with a mean age of 57.7 years. Regarding the type of AF, 104 (64.2%) presented paroxysmal AF and 58 (35.8%)
presented persistent AF. Considering the immediate success of the procedure, it occurred in the 95.7% of the patients. In the 3-month follow up, data was collected from 108 patients: 17% (N=19) presented AF recurrence. The presence of AF was not related to age, ultrasound characteristics or type of AF. The mean left ventricular diastolic diameter was 49.8+-4.86 mm, the mean size of the
left atrium was 45.5+-5.56 mm. The mean left ejection fraction was 61.98%. Regarding complications,
they occurred in 8% of the patients. No deaths were reported. Conclusions: Pulmonary vein ablation is a procedure that presents a high rate of immediate success at the Juana Cabral Institute of Cardiology, with a rate of complications comparable to that of other centers’ registries.
