Abstract

Cardiovascular atherosclerosis is the leading cause of death and comorbidities in Argentina and the entire world. In recent years, multiple factors associated with it and its complications have been identified, such as myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, etc. Through a brief review of the state of the art in prevention and prediction of cardiovascular events put forward by scientific societies guidelines, we propose an approach to the problem based on the theory of complex systems, suggesting the incorporation of new tools for the prediction of cardiovascular events. Through a holistic, systemic, "dialectical" view of complexity, we can think about the health/disease process from a new perspective, and seek solutions to old questions that do not have clear answers in the Evidence-Based Medicine paradigm, and thus, open new lines of research. The use of methodologies and tools that allow analyses of complexity could help predict the occurrence of events.
