Abstract

The Dr. Fernando Barreyro Pediatric Hospital in the Posadas´ city, Misiones, serves more than 50 heart disease consultations per day. The objective of this work was to characterize the most frequent congenital heart diseases diagnosed in the child and young population treated in the Cardiology Service from 2013 to 2019 indeed, relieving cases in family groups. It was included 699 digitized medical records in before mention period, which resulted in a casuistry of 463 children and young adults’ cardiac patients less than 21 years of age; with 17 of the cases being affected families. The most frequently diagnosed congenital defects were: interatrial communication (isolated or not), interventricular communication (isolated or not), patent ductus arteriosus, ventricular atrial canal, pulmonary stenosis, coarctation of aorta, single ventricle, transposition of the great vessels, Tetralogy of Fallot, Ebstein's disease and tricuspid atresia. They were classified among: isolated defects, complex heart disease and known genetic syndromes. Seventeen cases were familiar, including three pair of twins which are described, the most likely inheritance pattern was determined and their specific recurrence risk was calculated. Value our results to contribute for more publications about the region.
