Abstract

Introduction: the study of non-linear systems, fractal geometry and a potential mathematical law have made it possible to establish a diagnostic method of cardiac dynamics that differentiates between normality, chronic and acute disease, as well as the evolution between states. Objective: to apply a methodology based on a potential mathematical law to assess the level of risk of cardiac dynamics in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus from 18 hour Holter recordings. Methodology: from 50 Holter recordings, 5 normal and 45 from subjects with diabetes mellitus, the minimum and maximum heart rate values were taken as well as the number of heartbeats per hour for 18 hours. Subsequently, chaotic attractors were generated in delay maps, of which the space occupation and the fractal dimension were quantified. Results: the mathematical values of the Holter records of diabetic subjects varied between the ranges of acute to chronic disease, according to the mathematical method; while the normal Holter records had values greater than 200 Kp. The specificity and sensitivity values were 100%. Conclusion: the mathematical diagnostic methodology allows stratifying the risk level of cardiac dynamics among diabetic people, which suggests its implementation in cardiac electrodiagnostic units to detect cardiac abnormalities among this population.
