Background: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is one of the largest pandemics known to date. The Argentine Society of Cardiology (SAC) and the Argentine Federation of Cardiology (FAC) have developed the First Argentine Registry of Cardiac Complications in patients with COVID-19 (RACCOVID-19) with the purpose of surveying the impact of cardiovascular disease in COVID-19 patients nationwide. Objectives: The aim of this study was to learn the cardiac complications in hospitalized patients infected with COVID-19, and evaluate risk predictors of cardiac complications and the prognostic impact. Methods: A total of 2750 patients were included in 50 centers in 11 provinces of the country from May 18 to October 31, 2020. Results: Mean age was 57+-18 years and 60.2% were men- Cardiac complications occurred in 15.3% and included heart failure (43.5%), arrhythmias (33.5%) and myocardial injury (31.1%).
Mortality was 19.3%. The independent predictors of mortality were age, male sex, hematocrit and creatinine at admission, underlying medical conditions, forms of presentation of COVID-19, and cardiac complications. Conclusions: The RACCOVID-19 registry showed a cardiac complication rate of 15.3%. Total mortality was 19.3% and cardiac complications together with other presentations variables and the severity of COVID-19 on presentation are part of a clinical risk profile associated with higher mortality.
