Abstract

High-sensitivity troponins have paved a new way for the evaluation of acute coronary syndromes allowing fast and accurate diagnosis of myocardial injury. However, a comprehensive understanding of the kinetic and analytic aspects will allow the appropriate interpretation of the results in daily practice, with the changing and specific values of each type of troponin. Nowadays, new concepts beyond the 99th percentile will allow to take appropriate decisions with the clinical experience of the cardiologists and the knowledge of the biochemist.
