La ecografía Doppler vascular se considera ahora mundialmente como la técnica no invasiva de primera elección para la evaluación de todos los territorios vasculares del cuerpo, con las ventajas de su muy alta sensibilidad y especificidad, así como de valores predictivos positivos y negativos. Actualmente, la ecografía vascular es una subespecialidad de gran importancia debido a su contribución a la clínica para el diagnóstico, la toma de decisiones y la orientación terapéutica. Esta actualización está dirigido a ampliar la caracterización de la placa aterosclerótica y agregar la evaluación de un hallazgo muy frecuente como son las tortuosidades, kinks y coils.
