Intraoperative/Intraprocedural Transesophageal Echocardiography National Registry

Objective: To assess the use of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in cardiovascular surgery and interventional cardiology procedures in Argentina. Materials and Methods: a multicenter survey was conducted among members of the Federación Argentina de Cardiología, yielding responses from 32 centers across 16 provinces. Results: TEE is used in 68.8% of centers for cardiovascular surgery and in 78.1% for structural procedures, although limitations remain due to lack of equipment, trained personnel, and standardized protocols. Only half of the centers have three-dimensional technology, and a similar proportion have institutional protocols for its use. Most procedures reported no significant complications, confirming the safety of the technique. Conclusions: these findings reflect an increasing adoption of TEE in the country, albeit with regional disparities, and highlight the need to strengthen interdisciplinary training and develop national consensus guidelines adapted to the local context.
